Listening to Cattle and Cane’s Paper Man, it reminds us how songs can interact between the lyrical menagerie. The song is pure in its presentation and subject matter. It’s a virtual ode to past artists’ works and what singer/songwriting is all about.
We’re not sure if any of you remember Christopher Cross. On its own merits, Paper Man is whimsical, expansive, caring, empathetic, dreamy – in its presentation and execution.
The payoff of the song in its bridge is simply divine and built up quite nicely by the whole of the song.
We feel whomever the subject of the song is, she/he is a very lucky person.
And isn’t a song supposed to invoke such passions?
We think so.
