Recently, the group Patriot Prayer, has clashed with Antifa members in multiple cities near and around Portland Oregon.
With close to a dozen rallies under its belt, the right-wing advocacy group, has drawn bit of controversy when coordinating and conducting rallies. They concentrate in their efforts in the San Fransisco Bay area, up to Seattle Washington.
The Patriot Prayer group has been criticized for having “attracted white supremacists and ended up in violent confrontations among demonstrators on both sides”, according to The Mercury News. Alt-right group “Proud Boys” have been a fixture in the groups rallies.
Unique to current political landscape in the United States, Patriot Prayer’s leader, Joey Gibson, tells that he is of Japanese descent (Japanese-American). He preaches Christian teachings in his rallies, and seems to be very Pro-Trump.
The Souther Poverty Law Center noted the group as “an antigovernment “Patriot” group based originally in Vancouver, Washington”.
On his Facebook page, Gibson proclaims that, “No extremists will be allowed in. No Nazis, Communist, KKK, Antifa, white supremacist, I.E., or white nationalists. … This is an opportunity for moderate (A)mericans to come in with opposing views.”
However, the results and attendees of the rallies seems opposite to his proclamation.
