Dave Reeves’ Undercover is a perplexing offering, for it balances itself, on tip toes, in between ‘bursting to a climax’ and ‘controlling the sub-dermal itch’ that seems to be pervasive of the song. It’s the ankles bound by rope, sitting at your chair. But you’re comforted by the hugging arms of the one you love.
Yes. That’s a perplexing paragraph.
But the song is perplexing, as well.
Why? It just wants to ‘burst’ out and have a payoff.
But it doesn’t.
It’s just like a TV series that wants viewers to wait until next season’s premier episode.
AND WE DIG IT.
You thought we wouldn’t like what Reeve’s has done with this song, but we think that his efforts have come out correctly out of the oven.
Listen to it.
Listen to the last bar of the song.
Yep. That’s right.
“Unfinished business” as we at CHF would call it.
But it works.
Well, we’re bit quirky, so maybe it’s just us. But we’ll bet there are others who’d think the same about it.
Kudos, Dave. Kudos.
