Governor of Puerto Rico, Ricardo Rossello replied strongly to Elon Musk’s twitter proposal that Tesla could help with the re-building of the island’s power grid and distribution structure, using solar.
There is confirmation on Elon Musk’s Tesla building a solar grid for a smaller Ta’u in American Samoa, in 2016.
> Puerto Rico is 3,515.00 sq.mi. w/ about 3.4 million inhabitants.
> T’au island is 17.11 sq.mi. w/ about 790 residents.
In August, there was news of Tesla continuing to research better ways to produce and more importantly, store, solar energy – this time in Hawaii.
Certainly will be a different kind of challenge. But here’s the short, terse conversation on twitter between the two power brokers.
The Tesla team has done this for many smaller islands around the world, but there is no scalability limit, so it can be done for Puerto Rico too. Such a decision would be in the hands of the PR govt, PUC, any commercial stakeholders and, most importantly, the people of PR.
