The summer just started. School was over tomorrow. Text books are ready to be ‘un-protected’. Lockers won’t have locks to them anymore. The senior class was awaiting for our presence.
Selena was my crush. She’s never looked at me directly. But I had it in my heart (deep in my heart) that she will be mine, someday. That ‘day’ might come tomorrow, or the next day, or many years down the line – but I was kinda sure.
She was a straight haired brunette, with shiny hair down to her shoulders and braces gleaming always in the sunlight. She was athletic, funny, punctual, and always was beautiful. She ate at the same time and in the vicinity of my lunch seat. Well, she was with her group of friends, and I was with mine.
One day, I noticed, from the corner of my eye, she was glancing at me. Was she looking at someone, past me? Or was she really looking at me? I wasn’t sure that day.
But the next day, it happened again! Did I have something on my face? My shirt? Was my lunch weirdly just so ‘ordinary’ that she was compelled to judge the makeup of my mid-day sustenance?
End of senior year, found out that she was going to the same college as I was.
“Hey, we’re going to be school-mates in college. What do you think about that,” she one day came up to me.
I said: “It’s going to be a great 4 years of college, Amanda.”
She smirked and said, while walking away: “You bet. Look me up in college. Let’s hang.”
