Heard of the Hyperloop? No?
It’s the next big project Elon Musk (of PayPal, Tesla cars, and SpaceX fame) has in store for the future.
Hyperloop is proposed to be a semi-magnetized, floating-on-air “pods” that will be designed to travel 700 mph through “near-vacuum” tunnels – all designed for individual passengers (i.e. today’s train services) and city traffic fighting purposes.
On the surface, it is what sci-fi has been having us imagine through TV and Movies, for decades.
Elon Musk has proposed that when humans are on other planets or planetary bodies, this kind of system will be effective in connecting communities / cities.
Imagine having this on the Moon, Mars, etc?
All that is well and good, but will it work in terra-firma where the weather and temperature extremes are harsh on metals and man-made structures throughout the year – every year? Will it be get to a safe enough level for people to travel in it? Or will the service be safe enough for non-biological transportation purposes?
We’ll have to see.
All we know is that the concept is being worked on by the Hyperloop team (recently testing Hyperloop One) and Elon Musk having amplified confidence that the project will meet its goals and can be deployed into the public. He’s been more and more confident, since his initial public mention of it back in 2012.
Musk has a history of achieving things like this, so we can’t count him out, for sure.
In the meantime, take a look at other videos from more media outlets.
