IAN MELLENCAMP’s single ‘Come Clean’ is the oddity that you want in your life. It’s a twisted tale of what we sometimes do everyday, as human being in relationships and bonds that seem to be very hard to manage. Honesty is the core to a relationship. But that one simple fact, is the hardest to let go. It’s often the last thing that is opened up for examination.
And with the way Ian has decided to communicated this one ‘feeling’ is the crux of this review.
The topsy-turvy synth mixed with the fabulously placed flat notes accessorizing his vocals, is a testament to Ian’s inventiveness.
Listen with your ears. Close your eyes.
It’s that beckoning thump of your heart. The call to your significant other, to open up and jump above the hurdle with you – together. But you can’t say it enough to convince. It has to come out from within, and nowhere else.
You pray that he or she will realize this big test.
LYRIC: “I know you’re torn but fuck the norm and tell me everything you’ve done. Cause I’m in love with the crazy ass lunatic side of your soul. Your depression, distrust, and lust is a must, I want it all. We’re designed just the same so let’s share our pain and indulge in our wrongs.”
If that’s not giving all the benefit of the doubt to the one you love. Nothing will be.
“‘Come Clean’ is about utter transparency. It’s the story of a relationship that is at a pivotal point; the couple could either self-destruct from a dramatic event or use the experience to discover more about each other and take their relationship to a higher level. It’s about exposing our weaknesses, our fuck ups, and our darkest desires to each other, despite the consequences or what others may think, in order to elevate our relationships, further unify our souls, and purify ourselves from our self-burdens. Instead of hiding things that we feel wrong for doing or thinking, we can admit everything, have conversations without judgment, and ultimately discover our true selves and share that with others. We all want to understand and to be understood. It starts with honesty with ourselves, then honesty to another, which can ultimately deepen that self understanding even further. It is essentially a collaboration with my partner and I. We really wanted the video to be a concept that worked from both sides.”
