Izaak Opatz covers Mark Chestnutt’s ‘Goin’ Through The Big D’ : “Mortgages due…” but it’s what’s gotta be done, yo !

Izaak Opatz

Talented Izaak Opatz, takes it up a notch with his upcoming collection of pop-country covers ‘Hot & Heavy-Handed’. It’ll drop December 11th and with it, your inner country will seep out to reveal that you, in fact, love this stuff and that you’re more country than you thought.

Said Izaak: “‘Goin’ Through the Big D’ is the exact kind of country song that inspired this record in the first place, which is to say it’s funny, full of pop hooks, and deceptively sentimental, and this recording captures myself (from three states away), Malachi (DeLorenzo), and Dylan (Rodrigue) exploring what kind of liberties we could take while honoring what we loved about Mark Chesnutt’s original, and reveling in just how fun the results turned out.”

We’d said of Izaak: “The fun nature of Izaak comes straight through in his songs. We can imagine easily what his personal mannerisms are, and how they equate to his life, family, friends, and the activities he chooses to accomplish. And one of them is music, and we as fans, are glad that he’s gone to great lengths to do so.”

So nestle in and get warm by the fire. With your beloved at your side, cozy up to the whimsy and delight of Izaak’s musical presence.

Let’s get country, yo.

Today we're releasing the first single from Hot & Heavy-Handed, a forthcoming album of nine country covers and two originals, recorded this summer between my bedroom in Montana and my friend and producer Malachi DeLorenzo's studio in LA, where he and Dylan Rodrigue put the fur and pulse on a wide range of country tunes, some of which were long ago discarded as pop trash. Our version of "Goin' Through the Big D" by Mark Chesnutt is indicative of the kind of creative tomfoolery and backhanded reverence we hope we managed to imbue these songs with. The album began as an idea to put a dirtwave spin on some of my favorite, toecurlingest pop country songs from the 80s and 90s, but quickly expanded to include favorites throughout the years, and two older originals. Mama Bird Recording Co. will release Hot & Heavy-Handed on hot pink cassette tape and all streaming platforms December 11th! Thanks so much to @mamabirdrc for all of their help in making such a fun project come to fruition. Photo by @kendallrock Art by @lonesomevee
