We don’t do this often, but we think it’s appropriate to let the artist(s) tell how this single came about.
“In May 2017, Jubilo Drive’s original drummer, Eric Cruz, was involved in a fatal car accident. The music had already been written for “Thursday Night Taxi Service” in one sitting. In the months of healing, Jordan decided to write lyrics about a listener’s experience of listening to the radio while driving. Eric and Jordan co-hosted a college radio show called Thursday Night Taxi Service, and I wanted to dedicate the song to my late friend. The band were avid listeners and members of the Los Angeles radio station KCRW, and after Cruz’s passing, the band fundraised $2,500 to dedicate a memorial brick in Cruz’s honor at the new KCRW headquarters. The title is an homage to my show with Cruz, and a double-entendre about Cruz not getting a ride home on a fatal Thursday night.”
“In the months following Eric’s passing, the band printed shirts to commemorate him, and used the proceeds to purchase a memorial brick at the new KCRW 89.9. FM station. Eric had a membership and listened to the station daily on his drives around Southern California.”
JUBILO DRIVE consists of Jordan Kleinman (Guitar/Vox), Aaron Shadrow (Keys/Vox/Production), Henry Kuckens (Guitar), Kalyn Beach (Bass), and Jacob Lauing (Drums).
