We’d never seen Jack in person. We don’t know how he is at a bar. We don’t know what he thinks about hot-dogs that are deep fried. But there’s one thing that we are confident of: That he’s a rocker who should be on stage wearing KISS type costumes, while kicking the bejesus out of his visiting fans (musically of course)!
It’s a way that we affectively connect with the ‘LARGENESS’ of the song and what Killen represents. It’s his thang.
‘Tired Of Being Broke’ is the new single from KILLEN, a fiercely eccentric power pop project from Queens’ (NYC) own Jack Killen (ex-frontman of the Brooklyn party band WORKOUT), fresh on the heels of 2017’s Dangerous Lunch Crowd EP.
It’s plainly lit.
It glows in the dark.
And its just how Killen expresses himself…
…like a Boss.
The song is a long rant. No undertones. No subliminal message. No lessons to be learned.
It’s what a typical person COULD gripe about.
It’s simple. But its so, so good.
The song exemplifies what professional griping should be, dressed up in fabulous rock n’ roll finger striding, high up in the sky and decaring ‘Yes. You’ve arrive at the battle field, and victory will be yours!”
When listening to Jack, a whole river of thoughts went through our heads; including Elton John, Neil Diamond, Billy Joel, KISS (as in our imagined dress), Queen, Falco, and that odd guy at the corner of the street espousing conspiracies to anyone who’d listen.
That’s the effect the song had on us.
It’s just glorious – for narrative lyrical song writing like this, crusted with such attitude is rare (well at least for us at CHF, anyways). Well, it’s been a while since we’d been hyped on this kind of music.
We just dig it, that’s all.
Anywho, you’re a trip, Jack.
The song is a trip.
It’s bang on- at least for CHF =D
Kudos, Jack. Kudos.
The follow-up EP, ‘Black Sneakers On Concrete’ which will drop on February 9th.
He’s rep’ed by the gang at Axis Mundi Records.
