Lean Year – Waterloo Suns

Lean Year’s Waterloo Suns grapples the memories, unfulfilled, disappointed – waning in the horizon’s fog. Promises get shuffled. Promises get forgotten. Promises disappear amongst the layers upon layers.

Lean Year is a project between Emilie Rex and Rick Alverson.

I travelled to this place with a justification I’d thought to myself.
The road was harsh, but I expected that of it.
There was zero virtual pain. There was much physical pain.
Drug it. Suppress it. Never said goodbye.
I travelled to this place with a justification I thought I had.
Here it lies in puddles, of my mind’s dreams.
Slipping between my crumpled fingers.
Drip, dripping.
Unrelenting.

Emilie’s haunting vocals expressions reminded us of that ‘under/un-promised’ mistakes and subsequent sorrows. Rick’s machine expressions, galvanized our thoughts, mashing them into little ‘puddles’.

The ‘feel’ from this one is real.

The ‘real-ness’ is poignant.

The tactile sudden-ness tramples that bed of flowers, garnering zero guilt – just destruction.

Gave us chills.

Kudos, Emilie/Rick. Kudos.

We dig this song like heck, y’all. You should too.

Lean Year is rep’ed by the good folks at Western Vinyl, HQ’ed in Austin, TX.

Good sh*t.
