Lucas Laufen ‘Dublin’ : Lovely in every way.

New album ‘I Know Where Silence Lives’ out now.

Lucas Laufen releases the lush video for Dublin taken from his new album, ‘I Know Where Silence Lives’. A classically influenced singer and folk guitarist left everything behind in his coastal town Port Lincoln for a dream life on the European road.

It was meant to be.

“’Dublin’ was written after a trip to Dublin in Spring 2017,” Lucas explained. “A childhood friend of mine was visiting from Australia and decided to take me on a holiday for the weekend. It was the first time in the 9 months that I’d taken any time off and it gave me some perspective to sit back and think. When I finally took this time I was given a whole new wash of inspiration and energy. We travelled out of town and saw some green cliffs, the ocean and got our bodies moving. It doesn’t sound like much but it brought me back into myself. I hummed the tune while we were walking on the cliffs and recorded it into my phone. The song was finished a few days later in Berlin. It’s a song about leaning on other people and the reasons that I struggle with this. Something I’m terrible at but something that’s necessary for me (and most people I suppose).

And what of the video?

“I came up with the idea for this film clip after looking out of my balcony through a film slide that I picked up from a secondhand store. With the help of Australian filmmaker Jordan Kirk, we shot the video in Berlin, close to the apartment where I’m living. The slides shown in the clip tie the whole album together and include photos from Christchurch (where the album was recorded in New Zealand), Norway (The location of the clip for I Know Where Silence Lives), the salt lakes in Lochiel where the clip to A Million Miles From Love was shot and the canola fields in Port Lincoln showing the same photo that the album artwork was based on. This video portrays my split feelings of home existing in the city as well as among nature and solitude; finding peace in the natural world.”

The album ‘I Know Where Silence Lives’ was produced by Ben Edwards (Marlon Williams, Aldous Harding, Julia Jacklin) at ‘The Sitting Room’, overlooking the ocean and recorded next to nature. The album is 9 songs of personal journey, touching on themes of loss, searching and the beauty in between.

Lovely in every way.

See him next @ PRIVATCLUB Berlin, Germany on December 14th.
