Mattiel’s Baby Brother is that exclamation mark in a 1970’s Bullitt movie music credit. It’s a combination of 1970’s Cher female dramatic charm and strength, with Patti Smith’s unmistakable grit – rolled into one.
It’s refreshing, dynamic, terse, and weirdly gave us a slight bruise on our lower lip?!
Was it the head bobbin we did? Was it the imagination of rhinestone cuff, bell-bottom jeans in our heads? Or was the bruising from the combination punch the song emulated, and delivered??
Well, it’s all of the above.
Mattiel, when one listens to her other singles, can get the sense that she know what she is, what she brings, and what she can do with the ol’ school rock/pop influences, her body has absorbed.
We can imagine Mattiel’s sweat to repel what rock-pop should be.
And they do.
It’s not often we get giddy, but we do get excited when fantastical music comes our way.
And Mattiel has a fan in us.
