Midnight Mystery Club’s (MMC) single ‘Keep a Beat’ is summer. It’s a love that we is reciprocated. It’s a single that is apropos, to the hilt.

“A version of this track was previously released in 2015 under Ibiza label Secret Life and featured on many compilations including Cafe Mambo Sunsets,” said MMC. “Unfortunately we were never very pleased with the version that was released and had no control over the distribution. We are now very excited to say we have been able to recapture all the rights to this track and release the version…”

Midnight Mystery Club is the project started by songwriter David Paul Newell, who had made a name for himself writing for House music artists like The Shapeshifters and DJ Kisch. Midnight Mystery Club provided the freedom to indulge David’s obsession with late 70’s and early 80’s songwriting. Songwriting during an era of transcending and timeless music that continues to endear itself even today. Inspired by artists like Fleetwood Mac, Earth Wind & Fire, George Benson, Bobby Caldwell, Hall & Oates, Tears for Fears, Alan Parsons, Eurythmics, The Cars, 10cc, Sade, Peter Gabriel, Phil Collins, and Michael Jackson.

In 2017 Midnight Mystery Club became David’s primary focus as he withdrew from co-writing for other artists to concentrate on Midnight Mystery Club full-time. Now flanked by his close friend, studio drummer and touring musician Llavar Mindley. The two are looking to the horizon with eager anticipation of what mysteries are to unfold.

From the lighter skin toned ½ of MMC : This is my best friend Llavar and today is his birthday. It's hard to say all the reasons I appreciate him without acknowledging the state of America at the moment. It seems bizarre and unfathomable to me to not value someone because of how dark their skin is or where they come from. Especially when one of the greatest friendships I have, one of the most impactful people in my life, someone who has picked me up and helped carry me through rough seasons, someone who inspires me everyday, someone who is the kind of father, husband, brother, and drummer I wish I could be, just happens to have more melanin than me. My life is blessed everyday because of this man. To think that someone would devalue him because of his skin color produces a level of anger and frustration that I don't know what to do with. I don't have the answers for such a time as this, other than to say I am a better man because of knowing Llavar. Many people are better people because they knew George Floyd and this world is a lesser place now without him. I hope you take a moment today to consider the people in your life who have helped shape your life and how different their lives might be than yours. Perhaps they have a different background, ethnicity or economic upbringing. Perhaps it was seemly random coincidence that you met to begin with. But discovering a bond that will last beyond this life is just a taste of heaven in my opinion. If you have someone in your life like that, let them know you appreciate them. They matter to you. #blacklivesmatter #blackisbeautiful #blackmen #blackfathers
