‘Otherwise’ came from a difficult period where she was struggling with depression and anxiety. The inspiration for ‘Otherwise’ came suddenly, as “if something had been waiting for a long time to express itself”.
Marilyse Senécal drives the project of San James, and with the gorgeously engaging subtleties of her vocals, the single’s angst and emotions, burst through as though from reality. A dam being broken, bit by bit, knowing that disaster will become a part of the future, but knowing also that nothing could be done about how you feel.
After the release of ‘No One Changes Overnight’ in 2016, San James would strike back two years later with ‘Bridges’. The first single from that album ‘One Hundred Faces’ would waste no time garnering the attention of radio stations across Canada, climbing at number one on CBC Radio 3’s charts the following summer. Fueled by the release of a second single entitled ‘White Walls’, the singer-songwriter would hit the road soon after, as an opening act for Quebec’s beloved artist and musician Elliot Maginot.
Here is San James again, bringing earnest vibes and feeling of love and loss to the fore. A welcome feeling that is both grand and radiant.

#MusicAndBooks
