Deep breaths of insurmountable urges; clinging on to a cliff of danger, comforting from the grip that begins to slip…slipping…slipping. You close your eyes from the foreseeable rapture, demeaning from the outcrop of your head, and heart of disbelief.
You made it this way.
You made it this way and onward.
JUNACO is the project of Shahana Jaffer and Joey LaRosa. And the mellow exuberance of each word, shines through with delight from Shahana’s lips, then onto a cascading-ly decadent virtue, in ‘In Between’. Ripe with rituals of sanctity and perceptions of contrasts, the single delegates beautifully in an induced transcendental journey.
The music here is beautiful, calm, but most importantly, it exudes an undeniable and palpable vibe that is resolute and certain.
Shahana met Joey, a ‘counterpart’ in musical form. The Pakistani songstress formed a bond with her crew, in the fight to write and partake in the building of and for a desire to create.
And within their afforded frame of reference, the sequentially delicate, but admiringly expansive songs touch and prod your emotions, as it has many, prior.
‘In Between’ is a combination of fantastic use of the guitar fuzz, to evoke just enough to well up counter-proposals in vibes and colors. The vocals of Shahana, shimmer as it has always done, and its natural baritone effervescence, dig deep and wide – cutting through and speaking with absolute clarity.
Shahana stated on their upcoming EP: “The underlying theme is about coming to terms with experiences and hardships we have faced and finally putting them out there. It’s very healing”.
The new EP was helmed by Omar Yakar (War on Drugs, Perfume Genius) from Boulevard Recording
