Song Of The Day! Leo Lauren ‘Supernormal’ : Gorgeous pop endeavor. Delicate in presence. Rousing in maturity.

Leo Lauren

Southern California songwriter and visual artist Leo Lauren brings emotional rescue in his debut title single ‘Supernormal’ from the upcoming EP.

‘Supernormal’ marks Leo’s first thrust as a solo professional recording artist. But he is no stranger to songwriting, and has carefully crafted a distinct sonic and visual style. As an artist who works in painting, drawing, sculpture, writing, video, and hand-stitched garbs, Lauren further stands out from other creatives with his generationally fluid style and mixed-media arts practice – all which inform the nuanced songwriting, lyricism, and performance of ‘Supernormal’.

Said Leo: “‘Supernormal’ seeks to navigate the brazen optimism, great expectations and disappointments of a human experience. It is an expression of release from the tension born when moments of personal transcendence and fantasy are persistently confounded by the limitations of occupying a physical body – a body subject to worldly demands as well as the waves of loneliness and isolation that accompany its individual existence.”

Influenced by the likes of The Smashing Pumpkins, Billy Idol, Kate Bush, David Bowie, Gorillaz, Tears for Fears, Echo & The Bunnymen, The Cure, and Peter Murphy, Leo’s first single does not feel like his maiden solo voyage. It feels as though Leo’s always been here in this universe, parsing thoughts and rumination, through his music and story telling. The vibrant coming-of-age textures, are gorgeously presented and arranged, with a seamless connection to listener’s hearts.

‘Supernormal’ is a gorgeous pop piece, with all of the right moves and suggestions for pause. It’s that shimmering fairytale, just arm’s length away. It’s a story that we’d all would like to be a part of.

In late 2018 Lauren teamed up with producer Heather Baker (Bonnie McKee, NoMBe, Bea Miller, Adam Lambert) to record the single, and are finishing up efforts for the EP. Drums on ‘Supernormal’ come courtesy of respected industry drummer Jarrod Alexander of My Chemical Romance.
