Electronic, r&b, soul, groove, pop – all the powers of contemporary means of communicating feelings is demonstrated in Sôra’s music. Her summations of delight are manifested and disseminated through her hauntingly delicious vocals, where light and dark are intertwined to glittering absolution.
The French artist is hard to categorize, and we wouldn’t want to. Besides, it’s an unfair to our own sensibilities and assessment on what Sôra’s singles represent, and being unfair to ourselves, we indirectly perverse the method that she wants to present.
It’s a symbiosis, you can call it.
Her stated influences vary deep and wide with sounds and techniques inspired by artists like Erykah Badu, Justin Timberlake, Pharrell Williams, Hiatus Kayiote, and Kendrick Lamar.
Sôra commenting on her EP: “This first EP was such a pleasure to record! My partner and I hardly knew each other when we started working together. The way we did it was, I composed and wrote at home and then came to the studio to put everything together and push the songs to the next level with my wonderful partner. We kind of started getting to know each other through this EP and we are really happy!”
The synthesizer driven simmer of ‘Lifestorm’ bursts into the harbor and never lets go. The intense build up of the song, ratifies the senses, into a hypnotic convulsion, mindful of the eyes that look upon it.
It’s a gift that keeps on giving, bridging the unconventional with rhythmic arcs of beauty.
