Sunflower Bean shares New Single ‘Twentytwo’ off of new album ‘Twentytwo in Blue’.

On March 23rd, the New York City trio, Sunflower Bean will drop their sophomore album. And we’re excited. Like a little boy or girl. Don’t want to show too much eagerness, but inside – oh boy – bubbling in fandom and squeals. And why not! They’re good. Real good. And in their latest single ‘Twentytwo’ and we’re smitten.

Well, it’s not only us who are ‘smitten’. There are many folks who have gone under the spell.

Vocalist and bassist, Julia Cumming’s unique and very familiar voice is comforting and contrasts with a dab of ‘dare’. The comparison can be drawn to past 70’s pop punk female vocalists in bad-ass bands, and that’s just a start. She’s the glue that makes the songs, but the trio makes what the band has become. One depending on one another, living and breathing to entertain to the fullest

In 2016, they released their debut album ‘Human Ceremony’, with critical acclaim and popularity. The rock inspired productions are a breeze to like, easy to adore. But this time tried the ‘softer’ approach and well, it’s delight for our ears.

“We’re a rock band, and we would never want to be a ballad-y band,” she says. “But also I think when you’re like 18 and 19, you need to scream, you know? And in life you’ll always need to scream. I was a little afraid to show myself as a singer, even to my band mates, but I did and we were able to push ourselves. I think if anything, after making this we’re the most well-rounded we’ve ever been.”

“This has been such an unbelievable time,” says Kivlen. “I can’t imagine any artist of our ilk making a record and not have it be seen through the lens of the political climate of 2016 and 2017. So I think there’s a few songs on the record that are definitely heavily influenced by this sort of—whatever you want to say what the Trump administration has been.”

Obviously the band has many sides and opinions about the world they see. However, Politics is only one side. And another is that they are artists who need to express themselves.

And they do on this song. That cannot be denied.

“I think one word that always comes to mind when I think about this record is lovable,” says Cumming. “We want the songs to be something that someone can get attached to, and have be a part of them. Because that’s what I look for in songs myself, and that’s the kind of experience we want to give to others.”

Kudos. Go get’em killer!

Sunflower Bean consists of: Jacob Faber (drums), Julia Cumming (vox/bass), and Nick Kivlen (vox/guitar).
