Last Friday, President Trump called quarterback Colin Kaepernick a “son of a bitch” for protesting during an NFL game in 2016, protesting against police brutality.
The controversy’s embers were stoked again, with one stroke of Donald Trump’s speech on Friday, in Huntsville, Alabama. In front of his supporters he proclaimed, ““Wouldn’t you love to see one of these NFL owners, when somebody disrespects our flag”…“to say, ‘Get that son of a bitch off the field right now, out. He’s fired. He’s fired!’ ”
On Sunday, when most of the NFL teams play, many protested. Players from teams just didn’t bother showing up during the anthem play; some players replicated Kaepernick’s one knee kneel, like Baltimore Ravens’ Terrell Suggs and Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ Mike Evans.
During the Seattle Seahawks & Tennessee Titans’ game, Meghan Linsey sang the national anthem. “On the last note, Linsey and her guitarist took a knee”. Rico LaVelle (during the Atlanta Falcons & Detroit Lions game) closed out the national anthem on one knee, as well.
