Formed in 2019, The Clever References hit the ground running by booking shows in and around Melbourne. And we think that was the sensible way to go. For what are you going to do? Stay at home? Nope. If you’ve got the talent, like TCR does, you don’t mull around and wait for the crowds to approach you. You have more shoegazy/punky visions of story telling, to coax and narrate for the masses.
“A sincere, wailing blues song made by and for a generation of people steeped in so many levels of irony that secretly cries out for honesty from generations before that constantly belittles their unique struggle. Some times you just need a song about how we feel about the moment in the here and now: BIG SAD.” That’s what TCR said. We agree.
We’re looking forward to more from this quirky, vibin’, and fun band.
Would you believe it?
Believe it, yo.
The band is a trio, made of Wednesday Ash (vox/guitar), Mélisande Ricou (bass) and Evan Keith (percussion).
Oh, and listen to their cover of ‘I Wanna Dance With Somebody’ on the EP. It’s a hoot. Whitney Houston would be proud, to be sure.
