Tungz make the best of the situation and makes ‘Can’t We Just Be Friends Again’ a celebration. The boppy bedroom pop goodness, soaked in ol’ school r&b/freestyle, the dancey single twinkles like the night sky and makes you feel good.
Said the band: “We shared it and a bunch of people signed so we thought we’d give the people what they want: an opportunity to be a virtual member of the band Tungz. We used technology to create immersive and realistic worlds for people to escape into as they sing our song. We thought it would be cool for one low key caption to turn into a whole thing.”
“The whole band doesn’t live together, but we wanted us all to be in it, so we had everyone set up green screens (mainly bedsheets) at home and rock out along to the track. Even for us, it was nice to see us all on one screen again. It’s a dumb relic of ‘that time we all weren’t allowed in each other’s houses and everyone had way too much free time’. Plus we learned some Japanese along the way.”
In 2018, Tungz released their self-produced, debut single, ‘Window Love’ which became an instant bedroom-pop fave. It featured on BBC Radio 1Xtra, Dummy Mag, and Spotify’s Fresh Finds and ensured a global reach in the blogosphere from Canada (HillyDilly) to Japan (Niche Music) and college press in Atlanta, Georgia, USA. Always looking to put on a show, their single launch featured 100 free, homemade donuts baked by Jamie and delivered to the crowd in a keyboard case.
Now they got a slew of fab songs to choose from. That’s our good fortune.
They’re fun, exciting, innovative. Even in a pandemic.
