Go out (hiatus) with a bang. Why not! And the ravishing ladies of Wet Lips are doing just that. Their time off, as a band, is a bummer. However, for many fans, they’ll do it their own dang way by performing at their mini-festival WETFEST.
“WETFEST 4: Wet Forever” (love that title), will take place April 21 at Howler in Brunswick; the suburb where it all started. Featuring a stunning line up of their favorite artists including, Brooke Powers, Jesswar, Suss Cunts, Moaning Lisa and more.
Since starting out in 2012, Wet Lips have been a huge influence and inspiration for many people in the scene. The band that wrote bangers such as “Can’t Take It Anymore”; a testament to being treated like a novelty band for years, have seen the music scene slowly changing, and as the band explains.
“We’re really committed to making sure this community continues to grow… In order to do that, it’s important for people to take a break and not burn out.”
The band saw things a bit different in the landscape and stated: “We’ve decided we need a long break. When we started six years ago, it was a very different music scene.
And thanked their heroes for showing the way: “We’re really thankful to our early role models like Terrible Truths, Mangelwurzel and many more who showed us we could take up space on stage.”
The band, is frustrated, with aspects of the scene, but seemed to articulate that they will be back to try to slay the dragon, once more in the coming future: “We’re committed to making sure this community continues to grow and help make changes throughout the music industry. In order to do that, it’s important for people to take a break and not burn out.”
Lastly, the way they always do, suggested some near term steps for their fans: “In the meantime, buy a ticket to WETFEST, get your outfit sorted and come celebrate everything that’s good about the community we have.”
We’ll miss ya lot. Hope to see ya soon again, as a unit.
